I have lived on the Costa del Sol, Spain for six years. In Fuengirola there are over 164,ooo different nationalities. It is a town that is very popular with tourists of all age groups.

During my time here I have met a lot of tourists from all over the world. Most of them stay in the local hotels for their vacations and they seem to be very restricted to what they can do, especially if they are staying all inclusive.

Breakfast has a set time so leaving the hotel can be quite late, lunch is served at 1pm, and then they have to return to the hotel to have a shower and get changed for their evening meal. After they have eaten, they complain that they did not like the food. The hotel chef is Spanish and he does not know how to cook an english menu! It is late when dinner is finished but they decide to take a stroll on the seafront and have a drink in a cafe bar. It is then time to retire. This routine no different from home!

This is my sort of holiday:-

To me a holiday is about doing things away from routine, seeing the sights, having a picnic on the beach and watching the sun go down, strolling along the waters edge at sunset, eating when you are hungry, swimming in the pool at midnight, having a barbeque just because the weather is sunny.

A Spanish holiday villa with a pool that allows you to relax away from the hot midday summer sun, and enjoy the luxury of having a pool. A pool allows the children to enjoy and entertain themselves, it also means you can go outside on the terrace in the morning and know there are no towels reserving loungers.

A vacation villa on the southern coast of Spain will give you a relaxing holiday where you are free to do as you please. The hot sunny days with sea breezes can be enjoyed by everyone, exploring little Spanish inland towns, beach resorts, laying on white sandy beaches and looking at historic architecture. This the reason why people choose a villa holiday.

Spanish weather is variable throughout the country but it is usually quite warm. The Spanish south coast is better as it is hot but there is a sea breeze and is usually about 39-40C during the summer months, whereas the inland regions of Spain, ie. Madrid and Rhonda, the temperatures can reach as high as 45C as they do not get any cooling winds.

The summer season starts in May until September. The temperatures do cool down from October to December, days are warm, but a wrap or cardigan will be needed for the evening when it does get chilly.

Through the winter months the Spanish climate is warm allowing you some respite from the bitter weather in the UK. Golfing holidays are popular at this time of year because of the temperatures, and you can take advantage of the lower priced villa holiday rentals. You can even find one on a golfing complex. There is an abundance of golf courses on the Costa del Sol and golfers do try to play a different one every day.

Spanish culture come to the fore during winter. There numerous fiestas displaying religous celebrations, international food fayres, the traditional ferria fiestas and even international tourist days to be celebrated along with Christmas, New Year and the festival of the Three Kings on the 6th January (which is the spanish traditional Christmas Day).

Spanish people endeavour to make each festival as colourful and lively as possible. The sights are spectacular and visitors are encouraged to join in. One moment you could be eating traditional Spanish Tapas and drinking sangria, the next minute you will be flamenco dancing in the brightly festooned squares where the Spanish people meet.

Unlike the tourists who have booked into hotels, you are able to enjoy a full day of festivals and celebrations, taste the local food and drinks and when you have had enough partying, return to your villa and recharge your batteries ready for your next fun packed day.

This is the beauty of having a holiday in a villa in spain.
